What the first abandoned-cart message should say, and what it never should

A cart abandoned at checkout is a customer who was ready to pay and stopped for a reason you cannot see. The first message you send either reopens that decision or teaches the customer to ignore your number. Most first messages get their contents wrong in one of three ways.

What belongs in the first message

The actual items, one easy question, and a polite way out. The items, because "your cart" means nothing to someone who browsed five stores that evening - name what they left. One easy question, because a customer who can reply with a single digit often does. And a way out, because a customer who cannot make the messages stop will make your number stop instead, and a blocked number never recovers a cart again.

What the customer receives reads like this:

"Hi Priya, you left the Aria tote in your Saanvi Studio cart. Still thinking it over? Reply 1 and we will keep it aside for you - or just ignore this and we will stop here."

What never belongs in it

No discount on the first touch, no fake countdown, no wall of text. A first-message coupon teaches customers to abandon every cart and wait for the code. A countdown that resets next week burns the urgency the second time it appears. And a paragraph that tries to answer every possible question answers none - the returns policy can wait for the customer who asks. Timing is a separate decision with its own rules, covered in when the first abandoned-cart message should go out.

This is the cart-recovery flow Hextor builds

Hextor's cart-recovery flow sends a WhatsApp after a delay you set, in your voice, with the items still in the cart. If the customer replies with a question instead of buying, the AI agent answers against your live product and order data and hands the conversation to a person the moment it is unsure - so the question gets answered while the customer is still deciding. It runs from your own WhatsApp number, in your accounts, on your keys.

Want this running on your store? Tap the "Ask anything" button on this page and tell us your average cart value - we will tell you what the flow would look like for you.
