What to do with carts older than a week

By Anuj Chauhan · · 2 min read

The reminder sequence ended days ago and the cart is still sitting there. Sending another nudge feels harmless. But a customer who has not answered a week of reminders has given you an answer. What your store does next decides whether they remember you fondly or as the shop that would not stop.

Silence after a week is an answer

Reminders work while the decision is still open. After a week of no reply, the customer has usually decided, found an alternative or lost interest. More messages do not change that; they just spend goodwill. The reminder-limit article sets out where the line sits.

If you send anything, make it the last one

Some stores choose one final message: the cart is still saved, no pressure, and we will stop reminding you. That message should mean what it says. Do not add a discount to force the ending. The discount article explains why offers belong to earlier moments.

Decide what happens to the cart itself

Check whether the saved cart is even still valid: prices, stock and offers may have changed since it was abandoned. A reminder pointing at a stale cart misleads. If the customer replies months later, treat it as a fresh conversation, as in the returning customer article.

Saanvi Studio: one goodbye, door open

In this fictional example, Priya's cart at Saanvi Studio has been quiet for over a week. The store sends one last message: her cart is saved, this is the final reminder and the team is around if she needs anything. She does not reply, and the store sends nothing more. Weeks later she comes back on her own and finishes the order.

What Hextor builds around the limit

Hextor builds Shopify cart recovery flows that follow up after a store-chosen delay, in the store's voice, with the items still in the cart. During the audit, you can set how many reminders go out and what the final one says. Questions go to an AI agent using live product and order data, with a person taking over when it is unsure. We promise no recovery results.

Tap the "Ask anything" WhatsApp button and tell us where your team gets stuck. Start with a free 30-minute audit to discuss what the flow would need to handle in your Shopify store.
